May 18, 2013 Delta Canary Maybe we should focus more on storage, dams, water banks and conservation.
May 17, 2013 Water Workers Pay The solution is that you require them to work for the state for 3 years after training or payback the cost of their training
May 16, 2013 Delta Collapse Does it make sense to choose solutions that limit our ability to grow food on productive farmland?
May 16, 2013 Water Employees "Lowered qualifications?" Man welcome to the world of 'Affirmative Action.'
May 15, 2013 Water Cutbacks Actually, a 20 percentage point drop in the initial allocation (65%) equals a 30% cut in the initial allocation.
May 11, 2013 Work in the Fields or Get 'Cut Off' Our parents and grandparents worked in the fields.
May 09, 2013 Tunnels a 'Water Grab' Growers farming half a million acres of rich land in the Delta have a superior claim to Northern California water than do growers in the salt-plagued western San Joaquin Valley.
May 06, 2013 We Have to do Something The present rhetoric that demonizes one side or another is not responsible, and in the long run, will be seen as stupid.

May 01, 2013 The Browndoggle I’ve been referring to the browndoggle as the “Moonbeam Zephyr.” That seems an appropriate name for the project.
Apr 30, 2013 Smaller Tunnel Would Only Serve L.A. It would kill the San Joaquin Valley, but we don't have enough political clout to stop it.
Apr 30, 2013 Killing the Delta Let's just tell 'em the Delta can't be saved anyway so we may as well destroy it now rather than later.
Apr 29, 2013 What About the Water Bond? Just because an initiative has the term 'water' in the title doesn't mean the money is going to go for water. Titles can be very deceiving.
Apr 29, 2013 Water Arcives and Tunnels At first, Berkeley wanted to sell the archives, but couldn't find a buyer, so they just shipped them off to SoCal where they are now difficult to access
Apr 29, 2013 Boxer and Environmental Reviews Putting a limit on reviews puts a limit on their income. Just pay them off and make them go away.

Apr 25, 2013 Farmers Need to Wake Up Valley farmers need to wake from their Stockholm Syndrome trance and take a closer look at the leadership of their agricultural organizations
Apr 24, 2013 Human Right to Water Governor Brown...I respectfully submit that this is your responsibility to correct a serious problem within the Department of Public Health
Apr 23, 2013 Water Atlas Agenda Lead me to conclude the Atlas is largely worthless and intended to drum up support for an agenda.
Apr 22, 2013 The Horror of it All Let's see here, a project that reduces current impacts on fish, restores (not increases) water supply to 2/3 the population and 3 million acres of farmland without affecting anyone else's legal water rights
Apr 22, 2013 Calif Out of Compliance Despite having more environmental rules and regulations than any other state.
Apr 20, 2013 Safe Drinking-Water $ If Sacramento cannot effectively address our drinking water needs with that kind of war chest how can we expect them to do anything else right?

Apr 13, 2013 HSR & Water Were this state in a cash-flush condition with low-taxes, low unemployment, and boundless prosperity, then yes
Apr 11, 2013 Farm Worker Deal They're already here. Hire them now.
Apr 10, 2013 EPA and Farmers I would bet that these environmental groups would be just peachy keen to have their membership lists published along with personal contact information
Apr 08, 2013 Klamath Logic We can use those coming blackout moments to ponder the ignorance of our decisions. Let'er blow.
Apr 07, 2013 Why Only Klamath? If dams are evil polluters, then why aren't we taking down Shasta dam? Or removing the California aqua-duct system?
Apr 06, 2013 Klamath Responsibility You can start by reading through the chapters that have been released, there are some 20,000 pages available, this is commonly called a "data dump"
Apr 05, 2013 Remove Klamath Dams? Out of nine counties on the Klamath River, only one wants the dams out

Apr 03, 2013 Delta Smelt Hatchery Instead of wasting another $23 billion on Gov. Jerry Brown's latest boondoggle -- a water tunnel -- why don't we just turn on the pumps and let them run?
Apr 01, 2013 Wants Vote on Tunnels The fact that there would be no public vote on spending $14B+ is ridiculous!
Apr 01, 2013 BDCP Is Best Solution Seven years of research by scientists have resulted in the current BDCP proposal, which is the best opportunity that Californians have in securing their water future.
Mar 31, 2013 Running Dairies Out of Business California's large metropolitan areas have put a stranglehold on the most precious resource in the state, water, whether it's protecting some stupid fish
Mar 30, 2013 Train vs Tunnels HSR uses Groucho Marx accounting. "These are our numbers, if you don't like them, we have others."
Mar 30, 2013 HSR Meeting in Fresno City Hall is a nice sized venue. Much more spacious than the Board of Supervisor's chambers
Mar 29, 2013 Salmon and the River Man sometimes breaks things that can't be fixed but some people make a good living convincing politicians they can fix it.
Mar 29, 2013 Drought If government was smart (no chance of that - too busy banning beach fire-rings) they'd build a desalination plant
Mar 28, 2013 HSR Is Not What We Passed Why this project and why now considering it is nothing like what CA voted for.
Mar 27, 2013 Cut the Cord on HSR Gosh, if Kamala Harris, Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, and Barack Obama all support it, what could possibly go wrong?

Mar 21, 2013 HSR and Water Poll Well imagine that, people still want HSR to cost what they were told it would when they voted for it. Fascinating.

Mar 17, 2013 HSR No Fix for Traffic Problem In turn, it is the local roads, county roads and state roads that are neglected when it comes to routine maintenance.
Mar 15, 2013 Tunnels vs HSR On the other hand, the HSR would benefit only a small percent of Californians
Mar 15, 2013 Audit the Train Studies in California show that projects cost taxpayers 15% more when constructed under a union-only Project Labor Agreement
Mar 14, 2013 NRDC's Portfolio Approach Glaringly ignores the effects the plan would have on San Joaquin Valley farmers.

Mar 08, 2013 Rest of the Climate Change Story This paper is not intersted - EVER - in sharing the rest of the news which comes out all the time
Mar 07, 2013 Ride HSR The Bee cracks me up. They've fanatically agitated for this project from day one. They've poo-pooed all the concerns
Mar 06, 2013 Ignorant Crap! When a famine hits the United States because all of the farmland is dried up because of a fish, or some animal, maybe they will see the folly of this crap.
Mar 06, 2013 HSR Screeching Halt There will be an opportunity for the state to save face and end the program (blaming the "right-wing Republicans" of course) before $200 billion of debt is accumulated.
Mar 05, 2013 HSR Ex-Cons
Drinks are on the house! Joe taxpayer is buying-again..

Mar 04, 2013 HSR Job Qualifications Setting aside jobs for high school drops and felons is absolutely reprehensible
Mar 02, 2013 Restore North State Rivers It will take decades, and cost hundreds of millions, if not billions, while diverting a lot of water from other purposes, not just agriculture
Mar 02, 2013 Carlsbad Desal Good Idea I believe the repayment for this investment will be paid by Colorado River interests. Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City
Feb 27, 2013 Two Tunnels vs One "A tunnel this size, which would move much less water than is currently permitted, is not adequate to protect California from a disaster."
Feb 26, 2013 Water and Jobs They have money and jobs, and don't give a dam about anyone else's
Feb 26, 2013 Westlands Bond Rating The Fitch Ratings claims WWD has substantial water entitlements (1.19 million acre feet) and can purchase additional supplemental water and increase ground water pumping in low allocation years
Feb 24, 2013 Would Anyone Notice? So why spend so much money and time to save something the vast majority of people will never see or know if it is gone?
Feb 24, 2013 Tax on Groundwater If safe drinking water is a "right," then it should be provided as an "essential" service, just like police, fire, public works and street maintenance
Feb 24, 2013 Take Land Out of Production It also takes over 2 million acres of farmland out production that feeds tens of millions of people, drives the Valley's economy, provides tens of thousands of jobs
Feb 21, 2013 1/350th of the Merced River The proposal to raise the spillway, not the dam, by 10 feet would inundate the last 1,800 feet of the 122-mile stretch of the Merced River
Feb 20, 2013 Current Delta System Not Working For the sake of salmon, Delta smelt, Bay Area water supply and the food farmers grow for the grocery store, BDCP represents the best alternative for California.
Feb 17, 2013 Drugs in the Water And a growing number of “exotic” chemicals from drugs, cosmetics and the industrial process have only recently begun to be tracked and researched
Feb 17, 2013 CEQA Attorneys and Lawsuits Punitive damages should be awarded if it can be shown that a plaintiff has a history of filing frivolous lawsuits.

Feb 15, 2013 232 Dead Smelt Just thought it was strange the fish agency can kill 226 smelt in the name of science, but the pumps delivering water to farms and people get shut off
Feb 13, 2013 260,000 Acres of Farmland Instead of sending this water to storage, it was redirected to the ocean. It could have produced the food that 726,000 people consumed.
Feb 11, 2013 Protecting the Smelt Despite 20 years of restricted water deliveries to farms, homes and businesses, Delta smelt continue to struggle.
Feb 10, 2013 West-Side Political Contributions It doesn't matter if Brown is a Republican or Democrat, if he can produce this $14 to $25 billion taxpayer supported two-tunnel water delivery system
Feb 09, 2013 232 Dead Smelt Our Government is going to have to choose at some point between people and fish.
Feb 06, 2013 NRDC Plan Doesn't Supply Enough Water Introducing a "portfolio" of actions this late in the BDCP process does nothing other than to create delay
Feb 05, 2013 Stinking Regulations So if a bird poops in the ocean it's ok but if he poops on a rock then it's not ok to wash the poop back into the ocean?

Jan 30, 2013 Snowpack and Global Warming Eventually we'll get a very bad drought and THEN we'll look at improving our reservoirs systems.
Jan 28, 2013 Who pays how much for tunnels? The Governor, the Bee and everyone need to start referring to the total cost of the BDCP, not just the tunnels.
Jan 27, 2013 HSR Delays It should be clear that the state intends to win this battle by hook, crook, or barrel of the gun.
Jan 26, 2013 Calif Is Not Global Warming Factor Reducing the state's level to zero would have zero effect on global warming.
Jan 24, 2013 Smaller Tunnel A smaller diversion would not provide sufficient water to meet both urban and agricultural needs south of the Delta.

Jan 10, 2013 Feds Want More Water for Fish Well, it hasn’t worked and they are still clamoring for more water from cities and farmers.
Jan 10, 2013 Government Science Should be a separation of science and state clause added to the constitution?
Jan 10, 2013 Low fish counts The only effort undertaken by officials governing Delta water is to reduce water deliveries.
Jan 08, 2013 Do you use the same lure when it's not catching fish? Why continue to use water supply cuts as a solution when it is proven time and time again to not work?
Jan 07, 2013 Farm Bill Is Food Stamp Bill The farm bill is more of a subsidy to Wal-Mart than to farmers

Jan 04, 2013 Water for Fish Water supplies are being cut without any plan to determine what, if any, benefits will be to the environment.
Jan 04, 2013 Why $1B for Restoration? That very river supports 7B in San Joaquin Valley agricultural output, and by shutting it down it only supports a 110M commercial salmon industry
Jan 03, 2013 Water Use Efficiency From 1967 to 2007, California farmers' water use fell by 14.6% while increasing the value of agricultural commodities by 84% through increased production.

Aug 23, 2012 CEQA Changes? Really? Nothing in this story shows that a majority in the Legislature is likely to approve this change to CEQA
Aug 21, 2012 Skeptical of CEQA We've already seen they want to STUFF it with EXEMPTIONS for their PET PROJECTS such as BASKETBALL ARENAS, NFL STADIUMS and HIGH SPEED RAIL
Aug 21, 2012 CEQA Reform All About Brown's Projects He wants his projects to go through and he wants to be there to take a bow at the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Aug 10, 2012 Thank goodness for the PLF For their vigilance in battling the over-zealous members of that evil bureaucracy, the EPA.
Aug 10, 2012 SoCal Needs Desal Nobody is moving away in droves so we need to remember that we need a local water source
Aug 10, 2012 Salmon and Rain Stocking millions of predatory invasive bass in the delta helps to cull the few remaining salmon as well.
Aug 07, 2012 Regs Are Unscientifically Driven Such as what happens when a non-endangered species of fish is fraudulently declared endangered, and farming water is diverted to ‘aid’ the fish, and flushed out into the ocean
Aug 07, 2012 Matsui Repeats False Information Anyone who convinced Rep. Matsui that the Sacramento River might disappear into a hole in the ground, leaving the Delta filled with a tidal wave of seawater
Aug 07, 2012 Hyperbole of Matsui But what is Sacramento afraid of? Their waste water treatment facility that spews ammonia into the river daily.
Aug 06, 2012 Orcas and Restricting Water As a result of the listing, thousands of farmworkers were forced out of their jobs and impacts to the overall community reached almost $1 billion

Aug 05, 2012 Hetch Hetchy Vote is for a Plan They are not voting yes/no on tearing down the dam
Aug 05, 2012 Knock Off the Idiocy Does anyone involved in this horsehockey idea realize the impacts of tearing down the Hetch Hetchy dam?
Aug 05, 2012 Dream On This will not happen. Period.
Aug 03, 2012 Desal SoCal We up North might be much more inclined to support measures like this if we saw ANY attempt by our cohorts south of the Tehachapis to provide for their own water needs
Aug 03, 2012 Water Temp in Delta If you send the snowpack water runoff either around the Delta or under it in tunnels it won't disturb the Delta water temperatures as much.
Aug 02, 2012 Chronicle and the Delta You should focus on Hetch Hetchy issues and make sure the environmentalists dont make you drain it

Aug 01, 2012 Seven Times Over Budget So, take the "current" CAHSRA estimate of $68 billion, times it by 7
Jul 31, 2012 CEQA Is High-Paid Blather It's fair to say that not a single benefit to the environment has resulted from its application
Jul 31, 2012 Voter Support Waned? Voters didn't approve $68, they approved $10. One number is 7 times the other.
Jul 30, 2012 Must Be Honestly and Professionally Calculated They need to completely prove their case, show us the benefits, then maybe it can be built.
Jul 30, 2012 Cost Is Not Known? How do they know the water users will be willing to pay for it when the cost is not known?
Jul 30, 2012 What about reservoirs? Why not use at least some of the projected $40 billion to expand the resivoirs that still exist?
Jul 28, 2012 SoCal Needs Desal Have we learned nothing from the disasters at Mono Lake and the Hetch Hetchy Valley?
Jul 28, 2012 A Little Review is in Order Under state law water belongs to the people of the state and this project merely uses water rights granted over 50 years ago
Jul 27, 2012 There's a reason farmers use groundwater Because the government decreased their other supplies
Jul 26, 2012 We Need Larger Water Supply Build more Dams.
Jul 26, 2012 Delta Message Unclear They need to spend another few bucks putting out clear and understandable explanation of the need and how the plan fulfills that need
Jul 26, 2012 We Still Need Storage Should include massive storage points for dry years when we have average or above runoff.
Jul 25, 2012 More Food With Less Water There is plenty of water for our economy and our environment if we manage it properly
Jul 25, 2012 Water System and Food Prices Fighting over whether we should use it for feeding our people or washing the municipal wastes of a few bay and delta cities out to the ocean
Jul 24, 2012 Water Value Encourages Sales So long as water itself is more valuable than the crops it is used to produce, this will most likely continue
Jul 24, 2012 Cities Need Same Scrutiny as Ag Why do we allow municipalities to expand without any regard (the highest scrutiny that is applied to agriculture
Jul 23, 2012 Half of Water Goes Out to Sea In wet years much more simply becomes flow to the SF Bay, like 80 to 90 percent.
Jul 23, 2012 How Much Water Does Ag Use? Agriculture uses 80% of all developed water in the state. Am I wrong ?
Jul 23, 2012 Peripheral Canal Vote Would Pass This project won't move any more water than has historically moved but it will do so in a much more environmentally friendly manner.
Jul 22, 2012 MWD vs the Delta The water contractors will pay for for the tunnels and raise local water rates to recover their investment. This is actually a fiat tax!
Jul 22, 2012 Water vs. Trains Sacramento wants to leave a legacy, but will be the wrong one, of course.
Jul 22, 2012 Blame for Groundwater Problem They cut off the water to the valley and farmers have to pump to survive.
Jul 22, 2012 We Need Temperance Flat I encourage everyone to take a look at the City of Fresno 2012 water table chart,
Jul 20, 2012 Reality of Farm States Any Rep. Who votes to kill a farm bill will have a very short career in Washington

Jul 19, 2012 Last Three Governors Have Failed At this point, I am just not sure the state can afford another governor
Jul 19, 2012 Need Energy, Not Trains Too bad Jerry - you missed your chance to have an outstanding legacy
Jul 19, 2012 HSR Is Not What We Voted For The governor and legislators of this state are so out of touch with reality now that is scary
Jul 18, 2012 There's a lot of unused water There is no shortage of water in California -- the shortage is in its leadership.
Jul 18, 2012 Polluted Runoff If farmers do not take care of their lands then they are out of business.
Jul 16, 2012 One-Sided Opinions Do Not Help Water Future Try and convince people that the current conveyance proposals through the Delta are the same as put to the voters in 1982.
Jul 14, 2012 California vs. Wisconsin The first thing Scott Walker did as Wisconsin governor was to decline federal tax dollars for a train.
Jul 14, 2012 Trains and Police Think of that $380 million as our police and fire departments are being decimated because there is no money.
Jul 14, 2012 Trains and Cars Automobiles go hither and yon, wherever and whenever the driver desires.
Jul 13, 2012 Teachers Unions vs Builders Unions Those "union" teachers will be laid off by the thousands and will demand to know why you voted for a HSR boondoggle that no one wants.
Jul 13, 2012 Use I-5 Route for HSR Plus the French company said they could do it or 38 billion dollars and my guess is that they are going to come in-budget.
Jul 13, 2012 Don't Need No Stinkin' Study CA politicians have created a regulatory and tax environment that is unfriendly to business and workers alike.
Jul 12, 2012 A Good Plan for the Future A project that provides food for families, water for California's economy and a structured, comprehensive overhaul of the Delta ecosystem is a good plan for the future.
Jul 10, 2012 I love trains, but Unless we build them where people will use them, they are doomed to failure.
Jul 10, 2012 Voters Don't Trust Sacramento Few things are more important to the State's future than an uncluttered water bond vote.
Jul 09, 2012 Now Is Not the Time for Crystal Ball Gazing Will the uncertainty of a reliable water supply continue to plague 25 million Californians, including the farmers who grow the food?
Jul 09, 2012 Don't Drain Hetch Hetchy Giving up a high quality water source in a growing area already likely to experience high water costs is crazy
Jul 07, 2012 Voters Are to Blame for HSR In this next election, it is the duty of each and everyone one of us to vote against anyone who actually voted for this project
Jul 07, 2012 HSR Is Visionary, Cool, But Operating losses will be measured in billions.
Jul 07, 2012 HSR Is Not A Jobs Project California is paying about 5 times what the same project would cost anywhere else in the world
Jul 06, 2012 Shame on Them I cannot believe the cynicism in sacramento, the utter lack of any common sense, and their obvious disdain for taxpayers in this state.
Jul 06, 2012 Building Anything Will Create Jobs So is building a concrete 100-story statue of Jerry Brown in Selma
Jul 06, 2012 Don't Follow Stockton Not everything that creates jobs is beneficial to society.
Jul 06, 2012 Oppose HSR Then go to YOUR state senator's page, click "Contact Me", fill in your address, and write a couple of sentences
Jul 05, 2012 HSR Will Not Relieve Congestion On the other hand, 200,000 vehicles jam the 580 and 205 every morning driving in and out of the Bay Area
Jul 05, 2012 Out of Money, But On the one hand we do not have enough money for schools and a whole host of things
Jul 04, 2012 Peripheral Canal Might Help Nothing would be worse for the California delta than maintaining the status quo.
Jul 03, 2012 Dams Provide Valuable Benefits Insisting that dams have provided negative effects such as devastating the natural environment
Jul 03, 2012 No Storage in Water Bond Providing many millions of dollars for pork barrel projects unconnected to water.
Jul 02, 2012 No Reliable HSR Business Plan The failure to put forward such basic analysis, which is the starting point of any actual business plan, makes me very, very suspicious.
Jul 02, 2012 Government By Threat -Tax increases or we close parks
