Artificial Ceiling

Feb 24, 2010

I would just like to applaud Sen. Dianne Feinstein for the artificial ceiling in water allotments she has promised to introduce for west-side Valley farmers (note the sarcasm).

Yes, 40% water allotment does sound better than 10%, but why not fight for 100%? Does she really think we are just a bunch of uneducated Valley folks who do not recognize political posturing when we see it? She should ask Interior Secretary Ken Salazar how that worked for him.

How frustrating it must be for a career politician like her when Rep. Devin Nunes introduced his legislation, which actually addresses the man-made water crisis in California. It improves the Delta ecosystem, updates California’s water conveyance infrastructure and cuts through the bureaucratic red tape to achieve both.

With their liberal voting records against agriculture, I wonder which alternative Reps. Jim Costa and Dennis Cardoza are going to choose: 40% lip service or 100% concrete solutions?

In November, both are going to realize how hard it is to find a job with more than 20% unemployment in the Valley that they both fought to turn into a Dust Bowl.
