Leave Planting Decisions to the Farmer Aug 17, 2012
California Farm Water Coalition
Coalition response...Farmers make decisions of which crops to plant based on multiple factors, including soil, water, weather and market conditions to name a few. As an example, it takes certain soil conditions to successfully grow rice and those conditions exist in California's Sacramento Valley. To have someone not on the farm make the decision as to which crops should be planted and where, as suggested by the author, does not make sense and takes away the option of farmers to grow crops in a profitable manner that benefits many. Those who benefit include families every time they visit their grocery stores. It is best to leave the decisions of which crops to plant and where to the individuals who have all the information.
